The Carbon High cross country team hosted their only home meet of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Runners from 10 schools attended the meet which took place at Carbon Country Golf Course. The Dinos finished the meet in fourth place in both boys and girls divisions.

According to cross country coach Telisse Allen, Wednesday was a perfect day for running. “We couldn’t have asked for better weather. I think it was raining everywhere else but in Price,” the coach stated. “Cool temps made it not so hot to run in.”

Garrett Marsing captured first place overall with a time of 15:43. Trey Richardson was second for Carbon setting a new personal best time of 17:47. Freshman Drew Jones was third for Carbon and also ran a new personal best time of 18:09. Andrew Gagnon, JW Broadbear, Dallin Quinton, and Kyle Quinton rounded out the boys varsity team, all setting new personal bests for the home course.

Emily Broadbear led the Carbon girls to a fourth place finish by taking 10th overall in a field comprised mostly of junior and senior girls. Broadbear finished with a time of 20:35. Zarah Rossi finished 16th with a time of 21:20. Recovering from being ill all week, Giovanna Chiara placed 17th with the time of 21:22. Abbi Powell and Sarah Ohwiller beat key runners from other schools. According to coach Allen, the strong times ran by Powell and Ohwiller displaced other teams fourth and fifth place runners, securing the fourth place team finish for Carbon.

The Dinos will return to region action on Oct. 2 at North Sanpete. The team will also compete in the Nebo Invitational on Sept. 27.
