Only one game separated Emery and Carbon in the region standings when the two teams met in Castle Dale on Tuesday. It was a pitchers duel early between Luke Stilson (EHS) and Jordan Fossat (CHS). Neither pitcher allowed many bases runners as the score remained knotted up at zero through three innings.
The Dinos took advantage of two errors in the fourth inning and got on the board 3-0. Another error extended the fifth inning, allowing Carbon to strike for three more runs. Two leadoff singles looked promising for the Spartans in the bottom half, but a double play spoiled the opportunity. Carbon continued to pour it on with four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to take the rivalry game 12-2.
Cooper Schade had a day, going 3-4 with three RBIs, a home run and a double. Rylan Hart also finished 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Fossat held Emery to just four hits in the outing and completed the game for the win. Only five of the Dinos’ 12 runs were earned as the five Emery errors dramatically hurt the Spartans’ chances.
Carbon is now up two games on the Spartans in the standings. The two squads will meet again on Friday in Price. The game will be streamed live on ETV Channel 10 and online at etvnews.com/livesports.
