Kinley Nelson tossed a complete game one-hitter on Wednesday afternoon against cross-town rival Emery, spurring the Lady Dinos to the 12-0 victory in just five innings.
Nelson struck out six Emery batters, giving up the lone hit to Emery’s Carlie Robinson. In contrast, the Lady Dinos bashed 13 hits in the game, three of which came off the bat of Kaytlyn Cripps. McKenna Sorenson and Markale Gressmen both had two hits apiece. Sorenson also had a game-high three RBIs. Makenna Pendergrass also added her first home run of the season.
Carbon jumped on Emery starting pitcher Braileigh Clark early, notching five runs in the first inning. Five more in the fourth and fifth innings combined, coupled with single runs in the second and third, ended the game after just five innings. Clark gave up 10 earned runs in the game, walked six and struck out two.
The two teams will meet again on May 3 in Price.
Carbon (1-0, 0-0 Region 12) will take on Pineview on Thursday as a tune up for the March Warm-up Elite Tournament in St. George on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Dinos will take on Cedar, Skyline, ID, Cococino, AZ, Kearns and Enterprise high schools in the tourney.
Emery (0-1, 0-0 Region 15) will host Duchesne on Friday before traveling to North Sanpete on Tuesday.
