Kayden Alderson, son of Ty and Amanda Alderson, recently had the opportunity to compete in the 28th Annual Down Under Sports International Tournament in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast of Australia.

Alderson was contacted by Down Under Sports and received his invitation based on performance at the high school state tournament this past fall at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, UT.

Thirty three American and 33 Australian golfers competed in the Down Under Tournament that took place June 30 through July 2. The USA Team took home a gold medal and Alderson received a gold medal for his first place win as an individual.

Alderson scored five over par (76) and one over par (72). He will compete in other tournaments this summer, such as the local Black Diamond Tournament and many UJGA tournaments around the state.

“I like the competitiveness in the players and challenge of the courses,” he expressed.

Alderson credits his great-grandma, LaDonna Rukavina, for getting him interested in golf, but his uncle Kelsey Cripps inspired him to take it to a competitive level.

“I would like to thank everyone for all of their support in getting me to Australia. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them,” he said. “Especially my mom and dad for always standing behind me.”
