Carbon District Named Chamber Business of Month

They Carbon Chamber of Commerce named the Carbon School District business of the month at the chamber luncheon on Nov. 19.

Superintendent Steve Carlsen, who spoke for a few minutes about the district, its progress and its goals, accepted the award.

Carbon School District is the largest employer in Carbon County with over 700 full and part-time employees and a payroll of $17 million each year, which includes salaries and benefits.

The Utah State Superintendents Association recently named Carlsen, who came to the district four years ago and is beginning his fifth year, the Utah Superintendent of the Year. Last year, the Utah Music Educators Association named him the Administrator of the Year during its annual conference following his work with the music staff to put together new strategies for improving the district’s music program.

Carbon School District is an integral part of the community. Today’s modern school district just doesn’t educate students anymore, but also provides many services including transportation, food services, recreation and other services to the area’s population.
