Carbon Dominates Opener

The Dinos did not waste any time on the road against Providence Hall on Friday night. In their first game of the season, Carbon quickly jumped out to a 9-1 lead. They then went up 30-9 after compiling a 14-0 run that spanned from the end of the first quarter to the beginning of the second. Carbon held a 34-15 lead at the midway point.

Carbon continued its dominance in the second half and took the matchup 65-36. The Dinos outscored the Patriots in every quarter, executing a flawless strategy. Kaleb Nelson had a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Seven different Dinos scored seven points or more, showing the team’s ability to spread the ball around. Carbon’s size played an impact in the game as the Dinos recorded 37 rebounds, 10 assists, six steals and three blocks. They shot 44 percent from the field and 23 percent from three.

The Dinos held Providence Hall to a dismal 24 percent shooting on the night. They also forced 15 Patriot turnovers and out-rebounded Providence Hall 37-28. Carbon will certainly face higher scoring teams and will need to cut down on its 10 committed turnovers.

Carbon (1-0) will host Uintah (0-0) on Tuesday in its home opener. The contest will be streamed live on ETV Channel 10 and on etvnews.com.
