Carbon and Emery High students took over the Carbon High School debate tournament Friday and Saturday as Carbon finished in first place and Emery took second.
The local schools took down a field that included North Sanpete, Waterford, Richfield and Green River.
Carbon High students Suni Gigliotti, Christian Johnson and Heather Bone each took first place in individual events.
“I was really proud with how everything turned out,” said Carbon High debater Kylie Ockey. “Our school did really well.”
Emery High students took home 37 trophies over the two-day event, but couldn’t overcome rival Carbon for the top spot.
Emery High debate coach Neal Peacock said, “The team did really well for their first time, and we are ready to go in and try to take first place at the next tournaments.”
Emery next travels Saturday to a tournament at North Sanpete.
