Over the weekend, Carbon participated in the Moab Invitational along with 14 other teams. Each weight class had its own tournament tree that the wrestlers had to advance through until a winner was determined. The Dinos had a good showing as they had the most pins in the tournament and finished third as a team overall.

Conner Fausett (152) and Keityn Hunt (160) both ended the tournament as champions in their respective weight classes. Hunt went undefeated in his eight matches with seven pins and one technical fall, meaning the wrestler controls the match from start to finish but is unable to pin their opponent. Fausett was 7-1 in the tournament and had seven pins with his only loss coming by a close decision, 4-3.

Jacob Barlow (170) finished second while Cayleb Marshall (120), Branson Cook (160) and Tyson Hatch (182) placed third in their respective weight groups.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” said head coach Brock Fausett. “Our hope is that the team will begin to do more of what we drill in practice and less improvising. More experience competing at tournaments and in the wrestling room will help with this. We did see progress, we just need to keep it coming.”

Carbon will travel to Manti for a duel on Wednesday and then to another tournament at Deseret Hills in St. George this weekend.
