Carbon Goes 1-2 at Central High School Warrior Challenge

The Carbon High School managed to walk away with a single victory adn two losses over the weekend as they participated in the Central High School Warrior Challenge.

Thursday’s action found the Dinos’ sole win, a 70-38 sweep by the blue and white against the Palisade bulldogs. Carbon grabbed a strong lead in the first, entering the second at 19-10. Carbon continued their work scoring an additional 19 points and finsihing the last two quarters in the double digits.

Friday’s faceoff proved a nail-biter from the start as Carbon and Montezuma-Cortez were tied at the end of the first, 8-8. The panthers, however, responded strong in the second to grab a 20-16 lead. The Dinos fought back in the second half, but ultimately gave up the victory as a close 53-52 finish.

Saturday pitted the Dinos against the Grand Junction Tigers. After grabbing a 17-15 lead in the first, the Tigers responded by taking a 34-30 lead in the second, continuing on to a 58-47 victory over Carbon.

Several seniors shone over the weekend, with Chase Morgan leading the Dinos with a combined 44 points over the 3 games with 20 coming from the Dinos’ first round of action against Palisade.

Kyle Quinton was next for the Dinos with 28 points, notching a high of 14 in the third match against Grand Junction. Jamin Jensen similarly shone with 27 total points over the weekend and with 14 being made in the second faceoff against Montezuma-Cortez.

The Dinos will look for their next victory Tuesday as the team travels to the South Sevier Endowment Game.
