Rivals Carbon and Emery were neck-and-neck in a meet hosted in Price on Tuesday. The Gunnison Valley Bulldogs also traveled to take part in the Carbon-hosted event..
Swimmers from both Carbon and Emery all gave it their all, some coming away from the meets with personal records.
Emily Jespersen of Carbon beat Angellena Migliori of Emery by one second in the girls’ 200 freestyle with Asher Beagley of Emery swimming into first place, 2:32.23, in the boys’ 200 freestyle.
Carbon’s Kacee Barrett and Emery’s Alexis Johansen were in a nail biting race against the clock in the girls’ 100 butterfly. Barrett came in with a time of 1:16.63, barely grasping first from Johansen, who had a time of 1:16.80.
Keldan Guymon and McCoy Allinson of Emery placed first and third in the boys’ 100 backstroke. Guymon also placed first in the boys’ 100 butterfly, beating Carbon’s Rylan Chamberlain by only three seconds.
The Carbon girls placed first at the meet with a total of 89 points. The Emery girls took a close second with 78 points. For the boys, Emery scored 85 points, taking first. Carbon came in second with 66 points.
The Emery Spartans will travel to Moab to take on Grand this Friday. Carbon will follow up the next week with another home meet on Tuesday. The Dinos will face off against Payson, Uintah and Wasatch Academy.
