Carbon High School band students took to the stage for the final time this school year for their annual pops concert.

Carbon band alumni Gavin Nelson joined with Josh Rasmussen to begin the concert with a saxophone duet. Entry percussion immediately took the stage afterward, playing “2001 (A Mallett Oddity).”

Advanced percussion treated the audience to a diner-themed performance, banging on pots and pans to “Diners Club” that ended with a couple of pies to the face.

The jazz band swooned the audience with “If I Didn’t Have You” and “Skyfall,” which included a solo by Adriana Taylor. Wind ensemble brought Broadway to life with a mashup of songs from “The Phantom of the Opera.”

The symphonic band rounded out the night with selections from the Disney’s “Moana.” McKayden Fincher conducted the band in the final song of the night, “The Red Covered Bridge.”

After the performances, seniors were recognized for their membership in the various bands. Other awards were also presented to band members. Senior Tyler Pierce received the Louis Armstrong Award, a national award for band participants. McKayden Fincher also received the John Philip Sousa award.
