Songs from the movies filled the Carbon High School auditorium Monday night as the Carbon High School Choir Department took the stage for their first concert of the year.

Pieces from “Annie,” “La La Land,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” and many more were enjoyed by all that attended. In addition to the performance on Monday night, the choirs also performed for local elementary schools last Friday.

Besides just learning the music, students also had practices to learn choreography that would accompany the songs, instructed by Nicole Bennett, Mikelle Monson, and Riley Winn.

Superintendent Lance Hatch made a special appearance at the concert Monday evening. Performing “Man of Constant Sorrow” from “O Brother, Where Are Thou,” he invited the audience to sing along with him as he played the guitar.

When asked about how the performances went, members of the Carbon High Men’s Choir all stated they enjoyed being a part of this production. Merrick Morgan said that his favorite performance was the final song, Footloose. “It included everyone and I didn’t have to be in front. Plus, I got to dance with a girl.”

“It went pretty well,” stated Tyler Pierce, a member of Vocal Jazz. “This performance overall went pretty smooth.”

The CHS choirs will soon begin practicing for their holiday performances at Temple Square, as well as their annual holiday concert at the high school, slated for December 14th.
