The Carbon High cross country teams competed at region championships held at North Sanpete on Oct. 14. The girl’s team took second while the boys took fifth.

Emily Broadbear, Zahara Rossi and Sadie Crompton were the top three Carbon finishers for the girl’s team. Broadbear took fifth overall with Rossi in ninth and Crompton in eleventh. Maddie Black and Nikki Kulow also had great performances that contributed to the team’s low score.

The girl’s low score put them in first place along with Payson. To break the tie, they added the place of the sixth finisher, putting the Carbon girls in second overall. The entire girl’s team qualified to go to state with their second place finish.

The boy’s team did not see the same success as the girls. Paul Bryner was the first Carbon finisher, with Drew Jones the second and Trey Richardson the third. The combined rankings of the top five finishers put them in last place overall. Bryner, Jones and Richardson each qualified to go state as the top three finishers on the team.

The state championships will be held Oct. 22 at Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City.
