Members of the community were enlightened Monday evening with Christmas spirit as Carbon High choir students presented “Christmas Around the World.” The school’s mixed choir started out the festivities with music all the way from Russia and Africa.

The mens’ choir then shook it up a bit with music from Austria with vocal soloists Kade Allen, Kolton Cave and Ehtan Daniel. The men were then seen dressed up as hula dancers to perform “Mele Kalikimaka” by Jay Althouse.

A special a cappella group, consisting of Tifani Wood, Mary Lou Olsen, Jewellianna Neilsen, Kami Hepworth, Makara Morgan, Hunter Mortensen, David Hobbs, Parker Humes and Saul Becher, next clapped their way to “Winter’s Hymnal.”

The Musettes’ “Candle Light Carol” was accompanied by Harpist Karen Parker. The women’s choir then sang “Petit Enfant” by Linda Shaw and Dana Thompson. An uplifting performance was given by the concert choir with “Christmas Shoes” with Carson Taylor as vocal soloist.

Vocal jazz sang their way from America to Mexico, including numbers such as “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” to “Feliz Navidad.” Vocal jazz and concert choir combined efforts to harmonize “A Classic Christmas” and “A King is Born.”

The final performance of the night was “One Bright Star,” which featured members of the choirs holding a candle as they sang.

Carbon High School choir students are directed by Arthella Williams and accompanied by Vivian Baker.
