Carbon High School (CHS) senior Kade Allen was named as one of only three students in Utah that qualified for the National Honor Choir for the National Association of Music Education.

Allen, choir president at CHS, was instructed to audition for, as well as participate in, All State Choir before he was eligible to apply for the National Honor Choir. He auditioned last May and was notified of his acceptance in June. Allen worked on his repertoire for the National Honor Choir while also juggling a myriad of other school activities such as USU Eastern Honor Choir, National Honor Society, cross country, All State Choir and much more.

Nov. 7-9 saw Allen in Orlando, Florida where he rehearsed with and learned from renowned choral director Tesfa Wondemagegnehu and performed with 230 top high school choral students from across the United States.

“Florida was an experience to remember. Being in a choir of 230 of some of the most talented individuals – as said by Tesfa, the conductor of the choir – made for such an amazing experience. The true dedication of all these students in our choir brought out the hard work in the end. Working with these people and Tesfa was an uplifting experience, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I learned so much from not only the conductor, but the people around me. Being able to interact with students from around the country gave so many different insights on singing. I made so many friends and I would recommend this experience to anybody with the same dedication and love for music as I did,” Allen said.

The other two students that qualified for National Honor Choir in the state were from Juab High School and Park City High School.

“I’m so proud of Kade Allen and his courage to audition for opportunities like this, his hard work and his good attitude. Kade is always striving to learn and improve. This was a wonderful accomplishment and experience for him,” concluded Arthella Williams, Carbon High School choral director.
