State qualifiers of Carbon’s boys and girls team competed Friday and Saturday at the 3A State Swimming Championships hosted at Brigham Young University. Overall, the Carbon girls team finished in ninth, tying region competitor Richfield, while the boys team finished 14th.
Some individuals and relays finished with their best times of the season. The girls 200 freestyle relay team made up of Sadie Crompton, Kaisha Lott, Susannah Ohlwiler and Suparada Chaobol took a second off their previous time, finishing in 1:55.39 and sixth overall. The boys 200 freestyle relay also finished with a best time of 1:41.23. The team was composed of Kaden Earl, Tyson Swasey, Jax Kraync and Joseph Keller, with Keller completing his 50 yards in just 23.39, a new personal best. The girls 400 freestyle relay comprised of Ohlwiler, Addy Olson, Prettyman and Veronica Ibanez also had a stunning performance as they collectively swam five seconds faster to a new best time of 4:19.99.
Two individuals from the girls team saw significant improvements at the state meet. Freshman Kaisha Lott dropped time in two of her events. In the 50 freestyle, she improved from her previous best time of 29.19 to 28.64. The next day, she shaved off three seconds of her time in the 100 breaststroke, improving her record to 1:20.94. Sophomore Addy Olson also saw great success in the 100 backstroke as she swam to a new best time of 1:12.71.
Overall, head coach Kamra Davis said she was pleased with the swimmers’ performance. “The swimmers swam great. If they didn’t get their best times, they were really close,” she said.
Individuals and their state events are listed below. These individuals qualified either by having one of the sixteen fastest times in the 3A state or by placing first or second in that event at region.
