Carbon track and field hosted its annual meet on Saturday, bringing 22 teams to Price to compete.

Carbon placed first in the girls’ 4×100 and 4×400 while the boys took third in the 4×100, 4×400 and sprint medley relay 2,2,4, 8 events. Emery boys took the 4×100 event.

Carbon’s Megan Swasey snuck out a win in the 100 meter hurdles by two hundredths of a second. Emma Haddock (CHS) finished first in the 3200 meter and second in the 1600 meter. Lady Dino Makenna Blanc took third in the 800 meter.

In the boys events, Emery’s Braiden Ivie won the 100 and 200 meter sprints. Fellow Spartan Treven Brazier placed second in the 110 meter hurdles, five hundredths of a second behind the first place winner. Dino Carson Frame finished third in the close event, just six hundredths of a second after Brazier. Frame would return to the podium with a second place finished in the long jump. Emery’s Keldan Guymon and Cale Allred went second and third, respectively, in the 300 meter hurdles. Jared Spendlove (CHS) was second in the 800 meter. It was all Castle Country in the javelin. Cale Allred took first, Keldan Guymon earned second and Dino Michael Banasky finished third.

Landen Hardy was the lone Panther to score points when he finished seventh in the 800 meter.

Grand (136) won the boys’ division with Emery (92.5) in second and Carbon (55) in forth. Pinnacle scored two points for 19th. The Lady Dinos beat out their competition with a 94 score and Emery ended in 11th with 23 points.

“We were down numbers and [the girls] still pulled it out. [They] managed to find a way to win,” said Carbon’s head coach Jimmy Jewkes. “Couldn’t have done it without Emma Haddock. We were down when she won the two mile in the rain and that shifted things for us. Then the girls 4x4came out in the clutch.”

Emery’s head coach, Eric Nielson, was also proud of his team’s showing. “I thought the athletes all did great. This was a big meet and we were competitive in all the events.”
