Carbon hosted its first cross country meet of the season on Wednesday. A total of 12 schools came to Price to race on the Carbon County Club Golf Course.
Hayden Harward (Richfield) won the three-mile event at 16:12. Spartans Bryar Meccariello and Jess Christiansen finished third and fourth at 16:31.7 and 16:31.9, respectively. The two top runners for Emery were enough to earn the Spartans fifth place overall.
The Dinos were tightly packed once again. Chad Page led the way in seventh with a time of 16:47 followed by James Bryner (9th) at 16:59, Ryan Page (10th) at 16:57, Shane Scaugard (16th) at 17:23 and Kobe Cruz (26) at 17:46.6. Cruz’s finish was important because he was just one tenth of a second behind Beau Cook from Emery at 17:46.5.
Carbon came in second with a team score of 67, just one point behind Richfield at 66. If Cruz would have been able to overtake Cook, the Dinos would have tied with Richfield for the meet win.
On the girls’ side of things, Lady Dino Grace Broadbear finished sixth overall with a time of 20:44. Adaley Lester led Emery in 25th with a 23:06 time.
Uintah won with a 66 team score. The Lady Dinos came in fourth with a 124 score followed by Emery in seventh with 165.
Emery will head to San Juan on Sept. 25 while Carbon will travel south to Cedar City on Friday, Sept. 27.
