The final game of region play for the Carbon Dinos was a hard-fought affair as the team went into double overtime against region foe Payson. Going into the matchup, the two teams were tired for first place in Region 12. After two overtime periods, the game ended in a tie, 1-1.

The game started on a high note with the arrival of the game ball courtesy of the Eagle Air Med helicopter. The first half saw strong defense by both teams, keeping them scoreless at the break.

“The match was tied in regulation until Payson scored with about three minutes left in the match,” head coach Chad Cowdell explained, “Carbon continued their fight and they were able to even the score in stoppage time as Andrew Gagnon scored a header into the net off a free kick service from Sam Loveland.”

The tie sent the team into overtime.

“The two overtime periods that followed were tense and exciting, but neither team was able to find the back of the net, resulting in a final score of 1-1,” Cowdell said.

The Carbon Dinos will now prepare for the state playoffs. The team will kick off on their home field on April 30 at 4 p.m. The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 10.
