Students from Carbon High School and Pinnacle Canyon Academy flocked to CHS for an inaugural career fair last week. The career fair kicked off with keynote speaker Greg Dart, USU Eastern’s Associate Vice President. Once the remarks were finished, students were asked to pick three companies that interested them and to attend the presentations the businesses had prepared.

There were numerous local companies participating in this year’s career fair, including:

  • Heirloom Inn
  • Rural Online Initiative
  • Southeast Utah Health Department
  • State of Utah House of Representatives
  • Mays Retirement Solutions
  • GMS Mine Repair and Maintenance
  • Intermountain Electronics
  • Peczuh Printing
  • Emery Telcom
  • Castleview Hospital
  • Bodec Electric
  • Dinosaur Tire Service
  • Les Schwab Tires
  • CFM Industrial
  • Carbon County Recreation
  • Blue Diamond
  • Carbon School District
  • Conductive Composites
  • Carbon County EMS
  • Eastern Utah Community Credit Union
  • SME Steel
  • Nielson Construction
  • JM Services
  • Chrysalis
  • Parkdale
  • Utah Highway Patrol
  • Four Corners Community Behavioral Health
  • Carbon County Sheriff’s Office
  • Savage
  • Jones & DeMille Engineering
  • Tram Electric
  • Intermark Steel
  • Utah State University
  • Holiday Inn Express
  • Pinnacle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
  • Love-Less Ash Company

Students were informed of local jobs and what type of educational background was recommended for that particular career field. Often times, students aren’t exposed to the numerous job opportunities in the area and the pathway to get there. The fair was a great way for students to broaden their horizons when looking for a career and to prepare for their future. Students were informed about different types of careers revolving around nursing, welding, politics, trucking, business operations, computer technology, construction, first responders, aeronautics, auto mechanic and many others.

Once the company presentations were over, the students were invited to the auditorium for a few last remarks from Carbon High Principal Chris Winfree as well as a raffle. Many prizes were donated from the local businesses and Carbon High School.

Carbon School District has planned to organize a career fair every year to continue to expose students to different careers and pathways through higher education. Emery School District has planned to do a career fair sometime next spring and encourages companies to be part of it.
