Patricia Valdez appeared before Seventh District Court Judge George Harmond Monday afternoon and was sentenced on a total of four charges, all third-degree felonies, of forgery.
Valdez appeared personally with her attorney, David Allred, while the State was represented by Sean Brian.
The alleged guilty party was originally booked into the Carbon County Jail on multiple charges of forgery. Valdez entered a plea bargain with 14 counts being dismissed with the deal.
Valdez pleaded guilty to the amended charges of forgery, all of which were named as third-degree felonies. The instances took place from February 6 to March 13 and involved misrepresenting checks from the victim, according to information from the Carbon County Attorney’s Office.
After pleading to the four counts, the court sentenced Valdez to incarceration in the Utah State Prison for a time not to exceed five years on all four counts.
The court then moved to stay the execution of the sentence pending successful completion of formal probation for 36 months supervised by the Utah Department of Corrections.
Terms of probation included reporting to a probation officer and following a probation agreement, serving 50 hours of community service with the option for treatment or payment being used as hours as determined by her probation officer and paying a $250 recoupment fee.
A restitution fee was not decided upon at the time but will be determined within the next 60 days. Valdez will have 30 days to object after the total is named.
The court also allowed for Valdez’s ankle monitor to be removed and ordered that a previously posted bail amount be returned to its owner.
