The Carbon School District Board of Education discussed policy regarding field trips during their regularly scheduled board meeting on Jan. 14.

The board approved the field trip policy, Policy FF, as a first reading. The policy stated that the board will “philosophically and financially” support at least one field trip each year for all elementary schools. Board members were intent that the district-supported field trips be inclusive of all students regardless of behavioral or other issues.

Earlier in the meeting, the board also discussed field trips at the middle-school level, specifically overnight trips. Superintendent Steve Carlsen reaffirmed that students can go on day field trips for competitions, but stated that overnight field trips traditionally go against the middle-school model. Board members agreed that policy should be modified after further discussion of the matter.
