Carbon traveled to Orem on Wednesday to compete against the Maeser Prep Lions. The Dinos were looking for a season sweep against the Lions after they took the opening match at home earlier in the season.

The Dinos started the game off well, scoring 15 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 30-17 lead into the midway point. Maeser Prep fought back in the third but Carbon warded off the Lions for the 63-47 win.

Derek Hillam again led the Dinos with 30 points and nine rebounds. Collin Lewis and Ty Anderson each reached double-digits with 12 points apiece. The offense runs a lot smoother with Anderson on the court, who recorded nearly half of the Dinos’ assists with six in the contest. Carbon took care of the ball, only surrendering four turnovers while also putting together a better shooting performance with a 40% field goal percentage on the night.

The victory marks only the second road win of the year for the Dinos. Carbon will need to get more comfortable away from Price since it has no remaining home games on its schedule. The Dinos (7-13, 4-6 Region 14) have two road games in the week before the state tournament. They will open their road trip with Union (10-11, 7-5 Region 14) on Wednesday and then travel to ALA (4-16, 1-10 Region 14) on Friday. Union inched passed Carbon in a double overtime thriller in the teams’ earlier meeting, so Carbon would love to return the favor and play spoiler on Union’s senior night.
