The Carbon Lady Dinos held the Fruita Monument Wildcats to one first half field goal en route to a 49-27 win Tuesday night. The team from Colorado was only able to muster six field goals in the game.
Carbon’s stifling defense allowed just eight first half points, during which Fruita shot just 1-11 from the floor.
The Dinos exploded in the second quarter, leading by as many as 24 points. Both teams combined to shoot 34 free throws in the half, with Carbon connecting on 17-20 while Fruita shot a dismal 6-14. The Dinos led 32-8 at the half.
Carbon would extend its lead to 25 at 35-10 during the third quarter and would coast to the easy victory. Beth Child would score the last points of the game for Carbon in the fourth quarter with 4:11 left on the clock.
Jerika Morgan and Lindsey Blanc each scored nine points to lead the team. Morgan Hillam and Taylor Oliver added six apiece and Jordan Scoggins and Child each chipped in five points. Ten Lady Dinos scored in the game.
Carbon (9-4, 0-0 Region 12) will travel to Juan Diego (12-0, 0-0 Region 10) Thursday to take on the only undefeated team remaining in 3A. The two teams met up last year in the first round of the 3A playoffs, a game in which the Lady Dinos upset the heavily favored Soaring Eagle, 33-31. Carbon will begin Region 12 play Jan. 13 at North Sanpete.
