Kamra Davis has been coaching the Carbon High School Swim Team for nine years now. Since taking on the role of head coach, she has seen many swimmers come and go, many records broken, and has spent countless hours at the pool. The dedication she puts into her team came to a high point recently when Davis was named the Utah 3A Girls’ Coach of the Year.
Davis was surprised when the award was presented to her at the 3A state swim meet in Heber City on Thursday. Davis is known for putting her heart and soul into her swimmers, doing her best, and supporting each and every one one of them.
Assistant coach Allie Chamberlain was excited about the award for Davis. “She has had almost 10 years in this position, helping kids find their full potential in a sport that is close to her heart,” she said. “It’s about time she gets the recognition she deserves.”
Over the years, Davis has continued to be dedicated to swimmers, spending countless hours and many sleepless nights trying to make everything perfect behind the scenes at meets, planning out the season and so much more.
Since taking over as head coach in 2009, Davis was the key in bringing the title of region champs back to the Carbon girls’ team in 2015 for the first time since the 1990s. Since then, the girls have brought home two more region titles and took second at state this year, all under the direction of Davis.
Before the season ended for the Dino swimmers, Davis announced that she is retiring as head coach and this was her last season leading the team.
“I have been blessed to share in her experiences these past few years and I am so grateful for all she has taught me,” said Chamberlain.
