Carbon High track star Karissa Nielson competed in the heptathlon at the Great Southwest Invitational in New Mexico on Friday and Saturday.
Nielson’s first day of competition included the 100 M hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 M dash. Nielson set personal records in the high jump at 4’7”, shot put at 25’7.25”, and 200 M dash at 27.10.
Nielson also competed in the long jump, javelin, and 800 M.
Nielson finished the meet in 11th place.
The exclusive invitation-only track meet featured high school athletes from around the country, including athletes from Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and more. Nielson was one of just four athletes from Utah who were chosen to compete in the heptathlon.
Athletes were selected by State representatives and approved by the meet’s governing body.
