The Carbon boy’s soccer team has been to the playoffs before. But the Dinos have never hosted a first round game in their history. Until now.

With a 3-0 win over the North Sanpete Hawks Friday afternoon, Carbon forced a tie and won a coin flip between the two teams to see who would grab the second seed out of Region 12. The Dinos will host Uintah Thursday at 4 p.m. in the first round of the 3A playoffs.

The Dinos scored just 30 seconds into game against the Hawks, on a goal by Jamin Jensen, which came by way of a corner kick. Another goal by Jace Pettigrew before halftime put Carbon up 2-0. Andrew Gagnon added a goal with just under 10 minutes to play.

Carbon and Uintah hooked up earlier in the year, but the Dinos came out of the matchup of the wrong end of an 8-0 final score. Coach Keith Palmer isn’t spending too much time worrying about the previous game.

“I told them to forget about it,” Palmer said. “That is not who we are, we just need to go forward.”

Sam Loveland and Jensen missed the game against Uintah.

Palmer knows his players will be a bit nervous for the game.

“We just need to stay in the game for the first 10 minutes,” he said. “And just realize it is a soccer game.”

The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 10 at 4 p.m. A web stream will also be available by clicking here.
