The Lady Dinos were in Colorado over the weekend to take part in the Fruita Tournament.
On Thursday, Carbon controlled Palisade with its defense. They Lady Dinos held the Lady Bulldogs to nine points in the first half and eight in the second.
Carbon took the game 49-17 behind its 29 steals. Cora Lamborn had six steals followed by Diana Morley (five), Abbie Saccomanno (five), Jordan Bianco (five) and Mekenna Blanc (four). 11 Dinos got on the board, led by Saccomanno with 13. Blanc had a team-high six rebounds.
The defensive prowess continued for Carbon on Friday as it stopped Grand Junction from scoring in the opening quarter. The Lady Tigers only managed to score 14 points on 9% shooting in the contest as Carbon improved to 2-0 on the weekend, 39-13.
Blanc led the way in this one with 15 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Bianco recorded 11 points, seven assists and four steals while Lamborn and Morley each had three steals. As a team, the Dinos had 19 steals.
The undefeated Fruita Wildcats were by far Carbon’s toughest competition in the tournament. The Lady Dinos stalled on offense, only scoring five points in the first quarter and one in the second to trail 24-6 at halftime. Carbon scored 15 in the third period to cut the deficit to 10. It was too much to overcome for the Lady Dinos and they fell 44-28.
Bianco had a team-high 14 points and three steals. Morely (six), Saccomanno (six) and Blanc (two) were the only other scorers for Carbon. Blanc again led the team in rebounds with five to go along with five assists.
Carbon (6-4) will play Duchesne (3-1) at home on Tuesday before it takes a break for the holidays.
