The CARE Coalition hosted a kick off to an alcohol free summer for youth barbecue on Thursday. Attendees enjoyed free hot dogs, chips and drinks at the event which was conducted at Lin’s Fresh Market.
Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood, Price City Mayor Joe Piccolo, Four Corners Community and Behavioral Health Director Karen Dolan, and state Representative Christine Watkins spoke to the crowd and emphasized the importance of preventing underage drinking and the impact it has on a youth’s brain. Sheriff Wood also vowed to re-enforce penalties to any adult that supplies a minor with alcohol.
Several Carbon County deputies and numerous families were also in attendance to show their support for the community wide effort.
Mayor Piccolo read a proclamation that declared support for an alcohol free summer for youth from all Carbon County commissioners and mayors. This proclamation can be seen below.
This event was sponsored in-part by Parents Empowered, a state-wide campaign geared toward educating the public about the adverse side effects of underage drinking and the power of parental involvement. For more information regarding Parents Empowered, visit their website here.
The coalition’s kickoff event was the result of a community-wide effort. Lin’s Fresh Market not only supplied food and the use of their parking lot for the event, but it also provided space in the store for posters displaying messages regarding an alcohol free lifestyle for youth. Swire Coca-Cola donated soda and the use of a trailer while Price Chapel allowed the use of tables and chairs for the event.
