Rocky Mountain Power Representative Jesse Barker gave the Castle Dale City Council an update on the power outage in Valley View subdivision at its meeting on March 10.
The outage occurred on Feb. 18 and for some it was longer than 36 hours. He reported that because of old maps and submerged boxes it was very hard to troubleshoot the problem. Workers eventually had to replace cables and routes as some were outdated and inoperable. Help was brought in from Moab. The subdivision was remapped and remarked in order to try to avoid this happening again. Service was restored by 1 p.m. on Feb. 21. He was very apologetic and commented that individuals’ yards and paved streets will be repaired.
An announcement was made that bids on the new city building were sent out and will be returned and opened on March 24. Work on the building should begin on April 5, with an expected completion date around the first of 2017.
The council discussed whether to repair the burned out street lights with LED lights. The cost of each LED light is about $300 and will save about $1.50 per month. This decision was postponed until more information was available and council members could observe the difference in these lights.
Kerry Lake, zoning administrator, spoke of a scheduled public hearing on re-zoning property along fourth west belonging to Carl Jacobsen that is scheduled for April 7. Public notices will be posted before the hearing.
Discussion on the church park and pavilion located by the LDS Stake Center (1st E and 1st N) was held. The lease agreement was read and the status quo will remain.
It was decided that Blue Sage Arena reservations can now be made at the city hall but only to those who have memberships. If events are held, the arena must be rented by members. Unless rented by a member, bucking chutes will be locked.
Customary relief on large water leak bills was granted to a couple of citizens.
Another citizen is experiencing sewer problems. The problem was referred to the Special Service District.
Water allotment on culinary water at the high school was again tabled as there is still a disagreement between council members.
