Castle Heights fourth and fifth grade students showed off their knowledge of science on Tuesday at the school’s first ever science fair.
Thanks to the recently selected Carbon High School Computer Science Sterling Scholar, Parker Humes, the science fair was held and deemed a success. Being just a junior in high school, Humes has competed in a total of 11 science fairs throughout his high school career. One of these fairs happened to be the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair.
Humes wanted to share his love of science with the young students at Castle Heights which is where he attended elementary school.
Fellow Sterling Scholars assisted Humes with the science fair. Elley Cowdell, Sterling Scholar of Dance, Natalia Hopes, Skilled and Technical Science Education, Alyssa Vincent, Music, Jon Banasky, Social Science and Tyler Yoklavich, Science Sterling Scholar were present to assist at the fair. They helped judge and conduct the award presentations and the awards ceremony.
According to Mr. Winfree, a teacher at Castle Heights, the science fair will become an annual event for the school. The fair was sponsored by the Castle Heights PTA, while several businesses donated time and prizes to the fair.
The winners of the science fair, as well as businesses that donated are as follows:
