The Price City Fire Department was dispatched to the Castle Valley Center late Friday morning as smoke was noticed on the lower middle section of the building.

Shortly after Wellington Fire was also requested for assistance. Upon arrival, the fire was discovered in the wood shop area. Those that were inside the building were instructed to evacuate as the fire fighters worked to stop the blaze.

According to Price City Fire Chief Paul Bedont, the blaze was due to roofers using a torch to heat the tar underneath the metal during repairs. This caught the roofing on fire, resulting in the school losing a portion of the roof.

However, Chief Bedont remarks that the damage was mostly superficial, nothing structural. He also stated that the fire was contained to an area that was about fifteen by fifteen and the crews were able to snuff it out quickly. No injuries were sustained from the fire.
