Press Release

Castleview Hospital is pleased to announce that we have five healthcare professionals who have achieved the Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) credential. Mark Holyoak, Castleview Hospital CEO, Terri Watkins, former CNO, Grant Barraclough, CNO, Greg Cook, CFO and Jeannette Manley, RN/Patient Safety Lead are all credentialed through CPPS.

The National Patient Safety Foundation created the Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) credential to establish core standards for the field and set an expected proficiency level for those seeking to become professionally certified in patient safety. To date, more than 1,800 professionals have achieved the CPPS credential. They represent physicians, nurses, pharmacists, patient safety professionals, quality and risk management professionals, health care executives, nonclinical health care professionals and others with the requisite background throughout the US and nine other countries.

“It’s encouraging to see how many health care professionals at Castleview Hospital have demonstrated the dedication to the field of patient safety by achieving the CPPS credential,” said Mark Holyoak, Castleview CEO. “Achieving this credential creates a safe, high quality place for patients to receive care.”

Becoming CPPS certified will help you:

  • Gain credibility and respect in your field and organization.
  • Open more opportunities for advancement.
  • Stay valuable and marketable and meet “CPPS preferred” requirements in current patient safety job postings.
  • Prove your willingness to invest in your own development.
  • Show initiative to employers and prospective employers.
  • Separate yourself from your peers.
  • Demonstrate your commitment to safer patient care.
  • Improve your patient safety skills, knowledge, and confidence in the field.
  • Prove that you are keeping your expertise current and up to date through recertification

The Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety (CBPPS), formed to oversee the credential, works to develop and administer the examination and ensure it meets patient safety competencies. The CPPS examination is the only evidence-based, multidisciplinary examination developed to assess competency in patient safety. The exam will continue to be updated, as it was most recently in 2015, as part of the Certification Board’s commitment to ensuring its relevance in defining current patient safety tasks and competencies for years to come.
