Castleview Hospital Press Release

Castleview Hospital recently announced that Lex Black has been recognized as the hospital’s 2015 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s more than 60 hospitals, including Castleview, who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award program is an annual recognition that was established in 2002 to honor the life of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer (CEO). The Mercy Award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At Castleview, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize that this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said Mark Holyoak CEO of Castleview Hospital. “We are extremely proud to recognize Lex Black for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. He goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters is treated with the highest level of care and compassion.”

Lex has been a nurse in the Castleview ER for over 18 years. He is happy, efficient, highly skilled, friendly, compassionate, multi-talented and makes our hospital a place where patients choose to come. Lex Black started his career with Castleview Hospital in March of 1996 and since then has impacted the lives of many patients, coworkers and community members. Lex also works at the local jail as an RN. He does the intake assessments, gives medications and assesses acute needs.

Lex has a deep commitment to serve those around him; whether this is with the patients he is serving, his family, the community or his love of nature. Lex has always supported his wife in her career and if he isn’t working he is waiting for her at the finish line at her running events. Together they have two boys and one girl. Lex has been a very supporting father to his three children and has made every effort to be the father that he had himself.

Each hospital winner, including Lex, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2015 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August, to which Lex and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
