Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center Director Shelley Wright speaks to attendees at a recent luncheon about the center’s services and mission.

For its constant service to the community, the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce spotlighted the Carbon County Family Support and Children’s Justice Center at a luncheon on Thursday.

Shelley Wright, the director of the local center, was in attendance to speak more on how the Family Support and Children’s Justice Center serves the community by helping children and their families build stronger and healthier
relationships.

“The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center is designed to be a resource for parents,” the center shared. “Our safe, homelike environment is a place to find help during times of crisis and services to prevent other crisis situations.”

This assistance comes in the form of many different community agencies to provide the community with the best support possible. One of the most important areas of support comes in the form of crisis care.

“Crisis care is the number one priority for using the nursery, before all other reasons,” according to the center. “The crisis nursery is designed to provide a safe, homelike setting where parents can bring their children when the family is in a stressful situation.”

For children 0-11 years old,  the crisis nursery is intended to be a means of preventing abuse, not a drop off day-care program. Reasons for using the nursery include respite, family crisis, court, doctor appointments, medical emergencies, escaping family violence and the like.

In addition to crisis care, the center is also known for its home visiting program, parenting classes, referral services and more.
