A very special three-day event will take place at the Price Civic Auditorium beginning on September 9: Celebrating Life in Recovery, presented by Cheri Peters.

Peters is the founder of True Step Ministries and has a background of addiction and struggle herself. Peters personally recalls being brought up by parents that battled their own addictions and pain; thus not being able to give Peters the stable upbringing that a child needs.

Feeling a need to escape the horrors of her home life, Peters found herself on the streets of Los Angeles by the age of 13.

“When I was introduced to drugs, I found for the first time in my life that I didn’t feel like killing myself; it was unbelievably powerful,” Peters stated.

Peters spent years in a state of half-life, until God came into her life. Finding the Lord prompted Peters to start her program and share her story with others, hoping to instill in them the same calm and hope she discovered.

This program is not, in any way, only for addicts. Peters’ program deals with the human condition. Anyone that has been addicted, lived with an addict, felt heartbreak over losing someone due to addiction, or dealing with any kind of trauma, dysfunction or abuse in their life, can find hope through the program.

Peters’ story and every message she presents is very important to the citizens of Carbon County because of its drug overdose rate in Utah.

Beginning on September 9 promptly at 7 p.m., Peters will share her story of struggle and triumph. Then, the following morning at 10 a.m., Peters will discuss the importance of forgiveness in your own life followed by a lunch, the Celebrating Life in Recovery discussion and a musical concert beginning at 6 p.m.

September 11 will be the last day of the program, running from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For more information or answers to inquiries, contact Roger at (435) 472-1161 or Tom at (385) 209-3734.
