The Carbon High School auditorium was full of students and parents alike last week as students were honored during the annual awards ceremony to end the school year.

The seniors were recognized for the various clubs they had participated in as well as the many scholarships they had received. In scholarships received from academic institutions alone, the total amount of money awarded to the graduating seniors totaled over $600,000.

Many were given scholarships at the event from various institutions and organizations from around Castle Valley. Brock Johansen, CEO of Emery Telcom, was one such representative who awarded scholarships to three seniors.

Also at the event, various departments named their student of the year awards to those who had excelled in various realms of academia throughout the school year.

CHS Counselor Melissa Swenson also reported that three seniors from Carbon High were awarded the Graduate for Más Times Square Yearbook Scholarship. Shayne Lindsey, Kelcee Gunter and Sophia Fulcher were chosen to represent Carbon High as their pictures and a short description of their academic goals will be displayed on a six-story billboard in Times Square on June 8 along with other student winners. The scholarship, sponsored through the Taco Bell Foundation and Get Schooled, will also award each student a $1,000 scholarship to any institution of their choice.
