The Dunn family accepts the honor of being named one of the top small businesses in rural Utah from Lt. Governor Spencer Cox.

Helper’s own Clear Creek Adventures was recently recognized as one of the top ten small business in rural Utah. The businesses owners accepted the honor from Lt. Governor Spencer Cox at the State Capitol over the weekend.

“It was a great feeling to be recognized as a contributor to the success of Helper’s goals,” said Johnny Dunn, the business’ owner. “We feel that was a large part to being nominated for the award, not only being successful as a business by itself but by being a positive contribution to the community.”

Clear Creek Adventures, owned by Johnny along with his wife Mallery Dunn, opened in spring of 2017 on Helper’s Main Street. Since its inception, the business has garnered interested from locals and tourists alike that are looking to add some adventure to their local explorations.

“We were amazed at the level of support we received from the community,” said Johnny. “We expected mostly tourists to rent from us and were shocked to see how many local supported our business.”

The local business was nominated for the prestigious honor by Ryan Murray, the director of the local Small Business Development Center. Murray assisted the Dunn family in their goal of opening Clear Creek Adventures for the 2017 season.

“Working with Ryan Murray gave us a huge confidence boost as first-time business owners,” Johnny shared. “He asks you the tough, important questions to make sure you know what you’re getting in to. Once we were committed, he helped us with the planning and training needed to succeed.”

Since opening, the Dunns’ business has been heartily welcomed into Helper and the small business community with support from residents, city leaders and fellow business owners.

“Congratulations to Clear Creek Adventures for being recognized at the State Capitol,” said Helper City Mayor Lenise Peterman. “Johnny and Mallory Dunn showcase the best of our city with their work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit in business concept and implementation.”

The Dunns are now looking to expand for the 2018 season with plans to offer a larger variety of tours, including additional tours during the week and expanding to new tour areas. According to Johnny, his family’s love for the outdoors allows them to constantly invest in the business and look for ways to improve.

“Every day as a business owner brings new, unplanned challenges, so I think being able to adapt accordingly leads to success,” he said.
