Cleveland local Karen Griffin is a Zumba instructor and has been teaching classes at the Cleveland Town Hall for some time now. At the Cleveland Town Council meeting that took place on the evening of July 14, Griffin’s use of the town hall was revisited.
Griffin was not in attendance at the meeting but had a representative there. The council members commented on what a great service Griffin’s classes are for the town and how successful they seem to be. She teaches the classes twice a day, three days a week and has a turn-out of around five women a class.
The money received at the class is a donation base, there is no set fee, meaning that some people pay while some do not. Griffin has to pay $40 a month to be a licensed Zumba instructor with a $300 base certification fee.
The council members unanimously agreed that the classes are a great service that get community members out and active. That having been said, it was agreed to allow Griffin to continue to use the town hall without cost. The only stipulation is that Griffin is sure to watch scheduling to be sure no conflicts arise.
Eagle Scout Tyler Williams was slated to speak to the council members about his Eagle Scout project. Williams wants to put up section markers at the cemetery. However, Williams was not in attendance. The discussion was tabled for next month’s meeting.
The council members also took time during the meeting to finalize plans for Cleveland Days. The plans are almost completed; the main thing discussed was assuring that the council members will be early to each event to set up. There will be bike races, movies in the park, food served and more.
