Coach Phil Howa from Helper Junior High (currently Helper Middle School) was presented with the Apples for Teachers, Teacher of the Year Award on Aug. 13. Howa, was nominated by Kylasin Cloward for the award.
“Not only is he a great coach and teacher, he is a great mentor, friend and someone I look up to,” Cloward explained regarding her nomination letter. “I look up to him because he is very hard working, athletic, a great listener and all around great person. No matter how many times I tell him how much I appreciate him, the community also deserves to know what a great teacher, friend and mentor he is.”
KUSA on-air personalities Frank Ori and Corina Otani presented Howa with the award during a monthly school board meeting. Howa not only received a plaque, he was also presented with an Apple iPad while Cloward received an Apple iPod for nominating her teacher for the award.
