College Rodeo Competitors Gather in Carbon County *Photo Gallery*

USU Eastern hosted its fourth annual intercollegiate rodeo over the week, welcoming competitors on Friday and Saturday. The top two teams and the top three individuals in each event qualified for the national college finals, which is scheduled to take place in Casper, Wyo. in June.

The women competing for USU Eastern include Morgan Jensen, a Price local who is ranked first in the region for barrel racing and qualified for nationals last year. Afton McCourt is another Price local who competes in breakaway (ranked 12th), barrel racing and goat tying. Lakenzie Newman is from Herriman, Utah and competes in breakaway roping (ranked sixth) and barrel racing. Sierra Edwards is another Price local and rounds out the women’s team as a breakaway roper. The women’s team is in fourth place overall with 535 points.

On the men’s team, Austin Allred of Cleveland competes as a bull rider and team roper. He is currently ranked third in bull riding in the region and has qualified for nationals in the past. Will and Wyatt Magnuson from Castle Dale compete in team roping and tie down roping. Will is currently ranked fifth in tie down while Wyatt is ranked seventh. Leegene Barlow from Arizona is also on the men’s team. The men’s team currently sits in seventh with 505 points.

USU Eastern competes in the Rocky Mountain Region, which consists of 12 schools from Utah, Idaho and western Colorado.
