By Carbon County Commissioner Larry Jensen
The Carbon County Commissioners have committed to keep the public informed by regular updates on the radio and in the newspaper. We thank ETV News and all radio stations for their willingness to help.
Economic development is a priority and we thank the Community Economic Council for their efforts. The recent town hall meetings in each city proved very helpful. Citizens participated in a questionnaire that highlighted their concerns about the county and the direction they feel we should go. An online survey was also made available for residents. Nearly 700 responded to the survey.
The results of these town hall meetings and the online survey will be presented on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the USU Eastern main ballroom in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center at 6 p.m. We invite everyone to attend. Aggie Ice Cream and cookies will be served. Those who have interest in serving on the Community Economic Council can sign up at the meeting or visit www.communityeconomiccouncil.com.
We are encouraged by the regional approach to our economic problems. A spirit of unity permeates the Community Economic Council meetings. We are all convinced that working together is the only way to succeed. We have excellent volunteers who are working very hard to make things move forward. There is a ripple effect spreading through the community originating from the efforts and enthusiasm of these people. We offer a special thanks to Gina Gagon for her tireless efforts to identify priorities and make assignments.
We have met with several industries looking to relocate and two are in the final stages of their commitment to move here. Both are large industries that will create new jobs and additional income for the county.
