Carbon County Commissioners tackled proposed amendments to the 2018 budget during a meeting on Wednesday. Amendments were made to funds such as the general fund, mineral lease monies received but not budgeted, the public defender system and the like. County Clerk Seth Oveson discussed these changes with the commissioners.

There were changes that pertained to grant monies and the like that needed to be closed out within the year. A public hearing was hosted during the meeting to hear comments or concerns from the public regarding the budget. However, there was no one in the crowd that chose to spoke. After closing the public hearing, the commissioners approved the budget revisions.

The commissioners then discussed an addendum to the public defender contract with County Attorney Christian Bryner. This addendum was to replace attorney Don Torgerson with Aaron Wise. Torgerson is one of three attorneys handling the public defender matters but has been nominated to become the new judge in the Moab/Monticello area.

Attorney Wise practices in Spanish Fork but has already met with officials and agreed to keep fairly regular office hours in the area to provide a similar level of services that Torgerson was providing. Appeals will now be handled by attorney Robert Oliver, but all the same services will be covered as discussed in the original contract with the same money amount as before. This was also approved by the commissioners.
