The Community Cares organization once again presented a festive holiday meal for Castle Country residents during an event on Christmas Day.

For two hours, members of the community were invited to USU Eastern to enjoy a free meal. There, eager volunteers served classic holiday fare with all the trimmings. Attendees were able to enjoy the meal at no cost. Volunteers also took to the snowy roads that day to deliver meals to those that are home-bound or chose not to visit the university. Dozens of residents throughout Carbon County received a hot meal, complete with dessert, delivered to their door.

However, the event didn’t stop with food. Local youth were invited to a craft table to decorate sugar cookies with a colorful array of icing, sprinkles and more. Each child in attendance was also gifted a book to take home.

The festivities were accompanied with musical performances and entertainment as members of the community mingled and enjoyed a hot meal. According to Community Cares, nearly 275 community members were served on Christmas Day, including deliveries. The deliveries were an important component to the event because many Meals on Wheels recipients would not have received dinner that day due to the holiday.

Pam Cha, one of the organizers of the event, expressed deep appreciation to those who donated not only funds, but also gifts and time. She and the entire Community Cares team extended thanks to those who volunteered leading up to the event and those that worked Christmas Day to set up, serve, deliver and clean.

The annual event is organized by Community Cares, a nonprofit organization made up of hardworking volunteers. Along with countless volunteer hours, the event is made possible by generous donations from local businesses and community members.
