The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will allow construction work at night on state Route 10 to reduce traffic congestion and expedite improvements to the roadway.
The contractor plans to begin work May 31 on the 4.4 mile project which will provide a smoother surface south of town and include lane and intersection improvements near Ridge Road. Approximately 90 percent of construction may take place on weeknights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
UDOT Public Involvement Manager, Kevin Kitchen says, “We recognize this stretch of road is a vital link for commuters, and commercial road users entering and leaving Price. It also provides access to local residences and a broad mix of commercial, industrial and community entities. We’ll be using multiple methods to keep people informed and to keep travel lanes open.”
Construction workers plan to approach the project in two distinct phases. The first phase includes widening lanes and improving intersection functionality at Ridge Road along with work extending south to Stake Farm Road. The second phase centers on milling the road surface and providing an asphalt overlay near Kilfoyle Crafts northward to the 4 lane section of S.R. 10 in south Price.
UDOT recently awarded the contract for the project to general contractor Nielson Construction. The Huntington based company has established a public information office to answer any questions that might arise regarding the project.
Additionally, in coordination with UDOT, the contractor is also planning an open house for those interested in learning more about the project. Information on the date, time and location of the open house will be advertised when plans are finalized.
Construction is anticipated to be complete in September.
