The highly anticipated and greatly discussed soccer field that will be installed near the Carbon County fairgrounds once again came up on the agenda items at the commission meeting on Wednesday evening.

This time, the bids that were submitted to construct the field were due. The bidding process was opened on the 31st of August, which was one week prior to the day of the meeting. A total of five contractors submitted bids for the project.

The workload that the chosen contractor will face includes the site work, utility work and the parking lot. The company will also be installing the concrete sidewalks and ramps. The lowest bid that was submitted belonged to local contracting company Staker Parsons, with a total of $753,101.05. This total brings them within roughly $10,000 of the county engineer’s estimate.

“Based on the work involved and past experiences, as well as references, I would recommend to move forward with the contract,” stated a representative of the soccer field.

Commissioner Jae Potter wanted to remind the community and attendees of the meeting that the money for the field is coming from a grant given by the Community Impact Board (CIB) and the Recreational Service District. It is completely funded with no tax impact to the county. He also acknowledged his pleasure in the fact that the lowest bid was a local contractor.

The motion was made to award the contract to Staker Parsons.
