Two people were arrested Friday morning along Highway 6 near Wellington after allegedly stealing over $1,000 worth of copper wire.

Sean Evans, 47, and Jennifer Hamblin, 41, were charged with theft, trespassing, and criminal mischief.

Carbon County dispatchВ receivedВ an anonymous call at 9:20 a.m. reporting a suspicious vehicle near milepost 245.

When a Utah Highway Patrolman arrived on scene, Hamblin was sitting in a truck while Evans was seen hiding in a thicket of trees just off the highway.

The pair had been cutting underground copper lines that belong to Union Pacific. The duo had sold an undisclosed amount of copper to a scrap yard yesterday and were planning to sell again.

Union Pacific predicts $1,500 worth of copper wire was stolen.
