Cottonwood Elementary celebrated Kindness Week Feb. 12 through Feb. 16. The week began on Monday with an explanation in each classroom of the week’s activities. A large poster of Harry Potter flying on his Quidditch broom trying to catch a Golden Snitch was hung on the wall near the lunch room and every time a student was caught being kind, a teacher would give them a golden snitch that they could write their name on and it would be hung on the wall by Harry Potter.

On Tuesday, the food drive for the food bank began and discussion in each class centered around being aware of others who do not have all they need. On Wednesday, eraser handouts were given presenting the theme, “Make No Mistakes – Kindness Is The Way For Me.” On Thursday, everyone watched for someone else being kind through Harry Potter glasses.

As the week culminated on Friday, students were encouraged to smile, being reminded that smiling is a way of being kind. The challenge was to smile at at least six people and see if it was contagious. The food drive contest ended with the lower grades winner being first grade students. In the upper grades, fourth grade was victorious.
