At Canyon View Junior High, Principal Yvonne Jensen started a new incentive program called Cougar Pride.

This program is designed to reward students for doing good things, including citizenship as well as academics. Faculty and staff are asked to turn in slips with students’ names when they see them doing something exceptional. A drawing is then completed to reward the students whose names are pulled. These drawings take place daily, weekly and monthly. The first monthly drawing was held Friday.

To be eligible for a monthly drawing, students must have straight A’s with no tardies and no suspensions for the whole month. While the requirements are much less for weekly and daily drawings the goal is to receive the big prizes at the end of the month.

September’s winner were Tyrell Guymon and Alexis Nunez. Tyrell won a Kindle and Alexis a Fuji camera. These prizes are made available by generous donations from the following sponsors: Castle Country Pediatric Dentistry, Savage, Staker/Parsons, Superior Security Services LLC, King Koal theatres, Utah Power Credit Union, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Castleview Hospital, Evan Stilson Family Denistry, BK’s Stop-n-Shop, Ty’s Cabinets and Maverik. Some representatives from these sponsors were on hand to do the drawing and hand out the prizes to the deserving students.
