Crews responded to a call regarding a gas leak on Hwy. 6 on Tuesday morning.

At approximately 9 a.m., the Helper City Fire Department was paged to a location near Rocky Mountain ATV. Utah Highway Patrol troopers were on scene to direct traffic while crews worked to analyze the gas leak.

According to Darren Shepherd from Questar Gas, a company was repairing a water line near the highway when workers  accidentally hit the gas line. Crews were quickly dispatched to the scene and the gas was turned off. Questar workers will repair the gas line following the completion of the water improvements.

Currently, Rocky Mountain ATV is the only property being affected by the gas being disconnected.

Shepherd took a moment to remind citizens of important notes regarding natural gas.

  • Call 811 before you dig
  • Natural gas is not toxic
  • The gas is lighter than air and will dissipate
